Article on modelling complex slopes with LimitState:GEO
Ben Leshchinsky from Oregon State University has recently authored a paper which will be presented at the forthcoming 2013 Geo Congress in San Diego.
In the article it is observed that traditional 'Limit Equilibrium' methods are effective for simple geotechnical problems, but may encounter difficulties when considering complex problems. However, it is shown that 'Limit Analysis' using the discontinuity layout optimization procedure used by LimitState:GEO is an effective alternative method of determining the stability of complex slopes, without the need assume a slip surface geometry.
