Multi-ring arches

Multi-ring masonry arch bridges are a common form of construction, making up a large proportion of highway and railway bridge-stock. With LimitState:RING, multi-ring arches can be quickly and easily defined.

Ring separation in a multi-ring brickwork arch barrel is a sudden-onset phenomenon that can adversely affect the load carrying capacity.

With LimitState:RING, you can readily model the effects of full or partial ring separation, shear bond strength (adhesion) and the associated combined sliding / hinging modes of response. With this, the envelope of likely structural response can be determined and a more informed assessment of the bridge’s structural resistance can be undertaken.
