LimitState Director to Present NEW Guidance on the Assessment of Masonry Arch Bridges
LimitState Managing Director Matthew Gilbert will present details of the new guidance, CIRIA C800, at the Institution of Civil Engineers HQ in London at 18:30 on Thursday 30 June 2022.
CIRIA C800 provides up-to-date advice on assessing masonry arch bridges, taking on board findings from recent research. A key feature of the guidance is the Permissible Limit State (PLS), the state beyond which long term load induced deterioration occurs.
The new guidance recommends carrying out both ULS and PLS checks in order to provide a more reliable indication of the load carrying capacity of a given bridge.
PLS calculations can be carried out by selecting suitable inputs when using LimitState:RING 3 and the process of conducting ULS and PLS calculations in tandem will be streamlined when we release LimitState:RING 4. Further details will be provided shortly.
CIRIA C800 can be freely downloaded from the CIRIA website, while details of the talk can be downloaded from the ICAIR website.
