LimitState:SLAB article in The Structural Engineer

The October issue of The Structural Engineer includes an article on yield-line analysis of concrete slabs using DLO titled “The yield-line method for concrete slabs: automated at last”.

The article describes the traditional process of yield-line analysis and then explains how it has been possible to systematically automate this using Discontinuity Layout Optimization (DLO), as seen in LimitState:SLAB. The new automated method is then applied to various practical example problems.

This step forward in reinforced concrete slab analysis means that practitioners can now apply the yield-line method with confidence, even when slabs with complex geometries and/or loading regimes are involved. This can often highlight hidden reserves of strength in existing RC slabs, or indicate that a proposed slab layout requires less reinforcement than indicated by alternative analysis methods. More information about LimitState:SLAB is available on our website.
