Innovative Design Software: London Showcase
LimitState have been invited to showcase recently developed design software at the 'Collaboration Nation' and 'Innovate 2011' events in London in October:
- Collaboration Nation - 10 October 2011 - Business Design Centre, London
- Innovate 2011 - 11 October 2011 - Business Design Centre, London
Earlier this year, LimitState were awarded a UK Government (TSB) grant to undertake a feasibility study into the potential of using layout optimization techniques, similar to those used in our Limitstate:GEO analysis software, to design lightweight micro-truss structures suitable for production using additive manufacture ('3D printing') techniques. Potential applications of the technology lie in the aerospace and automotive industries, where significant efficiency gains can be made by reducing component weight, as well as in the medical industry, where micro-truss structures are commonly used as scaffold in bone and tissue replacement surgery.
Following a successful feasibility study, LimitState have now been asked to showcase the work at both the 'Collaboration Nation' and 'Innovate 2011' events to be held at the Business Design Centre in London, where representatives from business, academia and government will all be in attendance.
The size of the market for additive manufacturing is currently >$1bn per annum and is expected to grow rapidly as the technology becomes increasingly mature. LimitState plan to further enhance the prototype software developed, with the aim of producing a fully-fledged commercial package in the future.
